The East Coast Iron Club (ECIC) is an annual meeting for researchers interested in iron metabolism. The centerpiece of the meeting ~ held annually since 1975 ~ is a one-day series of lively discussions that facilitate the exchange of ideas and data. There are no slides or overheads, and all shared data are considered confidential. Postdoctoral research fellows and graduate students are particularly encouraged to attend. It is open to all scientists interested in iron metabolism.
ECIC 2011 will be held on October 27–28, 2011 at the University of Toronto. Drs Michael Spino and Douglas Templeton will serve as Local Organizers. The Program will open with a key note address by Dr. Alex D Sheftel who will talk on "The roles and risks of mitochondria in iron metabolism" at 5:00 PM on Thursday, October 27th in the Seminar room (Rm 850) of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. This will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. On Friday, October 28th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, in the Music Room at Hart House there will be a series of open discussions 30-40 minutes in length on iron-related research and concepts.
Attendees
In addition to ECIC members, we anticipate this topic will be of interest to guests from the various biomedical sciences departments at U of T and the many research institutes in nearby hospitals.
Proposed Topics
Please submit topics for a discussion that you would like to lead, to James F. Collins, Ph. D., President of ECIC, by September 15th, so that the program can be finalized in time for the final announcement, scheduled to be sent October 1st. Topics must be iron-related, but need not be limited to the mitochondria.
Posters
As in the past, participants are encouraged to submit posters for viewing at lunchtime on October 28th. Both novel and encore presentations are welcome. Please submit your abstract of the poster on a single page by September 15th and these will be posted on the website by October 1st, unless you specify otherwise.
